Panama Teak Forestry is a green investment. Our teak trees bind carbon from the atmosphere and provide a sustainable source of cultivated teak lumber to reduce the demand for native teak from Southeast Asia jungles. Over time, much of Panama´s tropical forest land has been razed by clear cutting and burning. Panama Teak Forestry is helping to reverse this destructive trend by returning hundreds of acres of land to productivity. Through co-cropping and other land restoration methods, we are improving soil health and yield and reducing erosion on our timber properties.
But we strive to go beyond the responsible management of our timber stands. These guidelines include actively supporting biological diversity, protecting fragile ecosystems, and promoting the restoration and conservation of natural forest lands. Accordingly, Panama Teak Forestry maintains more than 10% of its holdings as tropical jungle. We have designated ecological corridors through our timber properties, particularly along waterways and in other environmentally sensitive areas. We are restoring native vegetation to these conservation areas, to protect wetlands and provide wildlife habitat.
